Antique Baluch Prayer Rug

$750.00

A handsome antique Baluch prayer rug, hand-knotted in wool and featuring the distinctive deep, saturated palette associated with Baluch weaving. The field is filled with repeating angular floral and geometric motifs in rich burgundy, madder red, dark brown and ivory, framed by multiple finely patterned guard borders.

The traditional prayer-niche (mihrab) composition is particularly attractive, with stepped architectural elements at one end and a striking central horizontal element incorporating triangular, amulet-like forms. The dense ornamentation and restrained tribal palette give the rug a strong graphic presence while retaining the character and individuality of a genuinely handwoven textile.

The rug shows age-related wear and irregularity consistent with an older tribal weaving, including wear to the ends/fringe and some distortion to the shape. These characteristics add to its authentic, time-worn appearance rather than the uniformity of a modern reproduction.
